Episode #70
Hosts: Gary Gabagool & Platinum Puzzy
Guest: Lilly Laclare
INTRO
Gary: What’s up, everybody? It’s your best friend, Pervert Pete… Wait, no, it’s not! I’m Gary Gabagool, host of Cam Girl Diaries, joined tonight by my co-host, Platinum Puzzy. Welcome!
For anyone watching on the Pervert Pete channel, yes, I am not Pervert Pete. You may know me as Pervert Pete’s twin brother. Apparently, Pervert Pete decided to put me on his channel just to watch me fail.
Platinum: He’s probably actually watching, hoping we screw it up.
Gary: Exactly. Fuck you, Pervert Pete. Maybe he’ll make an appearance just to sabotage us.
If you’re watching on the Pervert Pete channel, I can’t see the chat, so come over to Cam Girl Diaries on YouTube or CamGirlDiaries.com if you want us to see your comments.
Platinum: All right, Gary. Let’s talk about some things.
ONLYFANS MANAGEMENT, AGENCIES & SELLING KNOWLEDGE
Gary: Let’s talk about OnlyFans management companies.
Platinum: Don’t get me started. Although, honestly, it depends. There are different levels of OnlyFans management companies.
There are experienced creators who are involved with management companies, and I think those tend to be the more legitimate ones. But there are also a lot of companies that basically see the money being made on OnlyFans and think, “Let’s get into this.” They take a percentage of what creators make and may hire inexpensive labor overseas to handle fan communication.
That can create obvious language barriers, and sometimes it’s very clear to fans that they’re not actually talking to the model. You can also see it in the sales pitches, PPVs, timeline posts and other details. Sometimes there just isn’t much attention to detail.
I also offer independent OnlyFans management, but I’m not an agency. I don’t have a team of people working underneath me. I specialize in communication with fans because I have years of experience with dominance, sexting, dirty talk and the sales side of adult content.
I also think creators give away too much sometimes. If your trailer, thumbnail and description tell the customer exactly what happens in a video, where’s the mystery? If you’ve already shown everything, there’s less reason for someone to buy it.
Gary: Yeah, that shit is all over the internet. Just because you can post something on Twitter or X doesn’t mean you should.
Platinum: Exactly. If people want to see the full content, make them subscribe.
One reason is that Twitter doesn’t have the same kind of age verification you might have behind a paywall, so you don’t necessarily know who is seeing your content. Depending on where you live, there can also be legal issues surrounding minors being exposed to adult content.
And beyond that, you should want to get paid for your content.
Gary: Makes sense. And you’ve got more than 20 years of experience in the industry.
Platinum: I don’t know everything, and I wouldn’t necessarily call myself an expert on everything. What I can say is that I understand fan-and-creator communication because I deal with it every day, both for myself and for clients.
Gary: That’s what I was getting at. We see a lot of cam girls offering courses and expertise when they’ve only been doing this for a short amount of time.
Platinum: There are several different levels to that, too.
People ask me about my personal stats, but my stats aren’t really the point. I focus much more on my clients than I do on myself.
I stay active on platforms so I can understand their terms of service, features and how they’re operating. How could I teach someone else to use a platform if I wasn’t keeping up with it myself?
I’ve also started doing audits. Maybe someone doesn’t want me to manage their account, and they don’t want to hand everything over to an agency. I can simply review their pages and identify things they can fine-tune to potentially maximize their earnings.
A lot of people have one good year and then decide they know exactly what made them successful.
There’s nothing wrong with monetizing your knowledge. I actually think it’s great when people share what they’ve learned and get paid for it.
But until you’ve hit rock bottom and had to work your way back up, there are things you may not understand.
You can’t always identify your own secret to success. A lot of people can only speculate about why something worked.
When you’ve made mistakes, failed, rebuilt and figured out what actually went wrong, you develop a much more realistic understanding of the business.
That’s what I think my biggest selling point is: I’m transparent.
I’m not going to tell someone they’re going to make $10,000 a month by posting once a week. Someone making $10,000 a month is probably posting much more frequently than that.
Gary: That’s what drives me crazy. If I’m buying information, especially something about making money, I want to buy it from someone with a lot of actual experience.
I see people who have been in the game for eight or eighteen months selling courses and telling everyone else how to do it. Then you look at what they’re actually doing and sometimes they don’t even have much of a following themselves.
Platinum: I understand why that bothers you.
For me, when I buy something, I already know I’m taking a chance that I might not learn anything new. The information might be basic stuff I already know.
I also understand that people are trying to monetize their courses, and that’s fine. What bothers me more is when people start stealing other people’s information.
I’ve had someone rip off an entire course and sell it. I’ve also had people take names, ideas, graphics and other creative work.
If you’re going to sell your knowledge, it should actually be your knowledge. It should come from your own experiences, your own failures and your own successes, rather than taking someone else’s hard work and repackaging it.
CAM GIRL DIARIES, PATREON & YOUTUBE MEMBERSHIPS
Gary: So where would you say people can find good information?
Platinum: Cam Girl Diaries Podcast.
Gary: Look at you following along!
Platinum: If you want different perspectives, that’s what separates Cam Girl Diaries from someone selling one course based on their own experience. You can hear from a lot of different creators here.
And there are plans for the Patreon, including building a community and offering things like tips of the week.
Gary: Platinum is teaming up with Cam Girl Diaries, and we’re going to be working on contests. I’ve got sponsors on board, and we’ve got a lot of things coming in the future. More lives, more interviews, all kinds of good stuff.
You can also join the YouTube channel as a member. It’s basically similar to Patreon.
Platinum: A lot of people seem to be gravitating toward YouTube memberships because they already watch everything on YouTube and don’t necessarily want to go somewhere else.
Gary: What kind of benefits can you offer through YouTube membership?
Platinum: Basically the same kind of benefits. YouTube is trying to replicate some of what Patreon offers.
Gary: Patreon still gives you more flexibility, though. You can offer digital content and other things, while YouTube memberships are still heavily focused on video.
Platinum: And you can do members-only livestreams on YouTube.
Gary: A lot of streamers use both platforms. You can stream to YouTube members and Patreon, although you need to set things up correctly on the technical side.
PERFORMER CONTENT, PLATFORMS & THE BUSINESS OF ADULT CONTENT
Gary: Speaking of technical stuff, Pervert Pete basically stole the stream link and put it on his channel just to try to humiliate me.
Platinum: Not much of a humiliation.
Gary: Exactly. He’s probably downstairs watching this and laughing his ass off.
We also talked about Anita Valentina, who would have been with us but was live on Sin Party.
Platinum: I’m doing a special May the 4th Princess Leia show on Sunday.
Gary: What time?
Platinum: 4 p.m. Eastern on Sin Party.
Gary: And what are you doing?
Platinum: It’s a surprise.
Gary: Now I’m interested. That’s the problem with a surprise. You don’t give away all the details because then there’s no reason for people to tune in.
Platinum: Exactly. I can tell you there will be a titty pic.
Gary: All right, now we’re talking.
Platinum: Sin Party is still in beta, but I think it’s going to be a pretty fantastic platform.
I have some connections on the inside, and they’re listening to creator feature ideas. They’re promoting creators and trying to build a community.
Some of the established sites have gotten so large that they can feel less inclusive. I like being involved with a site while it’s still growing.
I’ve also been with LoyalFans since day one, and I enjoy watching a platform develop. There’s something valuable about having a relationship with a company that remembers the creators who helped it get off the ground.
The adult industry is missing more opportunities for creators to actually be heard by the companies they work with.
Who understands the fans and their spending habits better than the people creating those relationships every day?
Gary: That’s what baffles me. With cam companies, adult-industry companies and OnlyFans management companies, a lot of people behind the scenes don’t have actual creator experience.
They may be using mainstream marketing strategies, and some of those strategies work, but adult content is a completely different ballgame.
Platinum: Exactly. Selling a subscription based on someone’s personality, interests and relationship with their audience is different from selling an ordinary consumer product.
I want to work with companies that care about the people who actually make them money. These platforms don’t exist without the creators.
ONLYFANS, LOYALFANS & THE “ULTIMATE” PLATFORM
Gary: At some point, do you think we’ll see a platform that’s really built around creators?
Platinum: In a way, that’s already happened.
That’s part of why OnlyFans became so successful. It allowed fans to connect directly with performers while giving creators control over their content, pages and fan relationships.
Before that, performers could get hundreds of DMs on social media. If you answered everyone, you’d spend your entire day talking to people for free instead of actually earning money.
OnlyFans took the social-media relationship and put it into a system where creators could independently run their pages, publish content and monetize their availability and time.
The problem is that the traditional cam-site model works differently. The more performers who are live, the more money the platform can make. That doesn’t always create the same incentive to focus on individual creators.
That’s one reason I like being involved with Sin Party. I feel like they’re trying to develop the platform from the ground up with the performer in mind.
Gary: So it’s basically a live platform like a traditional cam site?
Platinum: Yes, but they’re working on additional features that could make it much broader. I can’t speak to everything because some of it isn’t finalized, but there has been talk about features like fan clubs.
LoyalFans is another good example because it combines a lot of different features. It has discoverability, a media store, livestreaming, video, audio and other tools.
Gary: So what makes OnlyFans more successful?
Platinum: Traffic.
People automatically look for creators on OnlyFans. Even when I don’t update my page very much, I can still get new fans because people find me there.
LoyalFans has a lot of features, but developing that kind of automatic traffic takes time.
Gary: If you could build the ultimate platform, what would it look like?
Platinum: I’d take the features of LoyalFans, add the kind of traffic you see on Clips4Sale or ManyVids, and then build in a real fan-club or membership feature.
Imagine being able to have a public feed and messaging, but also have a higher-priced membership where someone gets access to everything.
You’d upload one piece of content and choose how it gets distributed. Maybe it’s a locked PPV on one level, a free video for members on another, or both.
Then add a cam site with the kind of traffic Chaturbate or Streamate has.
You’d have the store, the cams and the membership system all in one place.
And I’d connect the social-media side, too, so creators could publish from one central page to their social feeds.
Gary: That sounds like the ultimate platform.
Platinum: Exactly.
Gary: Coming soon to CamGirlDiaries.com. Everything she just said.
Platinum: Are you actually going to build it?
Gary: I’m an expert.
Platinum: You’re an expert?
Gary: No. I’m kidding. I don’t know what the hell I’m doing.
ONLYFANS TV & CREATORS CHOOSING THEIR BRAND
Gary: I think part of the reason these companies don’t implement every feature is that it would be a ton of work. Fansly is doing some things differently, LoyalFans is doing its thing, and OnlyFans keeps things relatively simple.
Platinum: I feel like OnlyFans has kept things relatively simple because they’re also trying to position themselves for mainstream performers, not exclusively adult creators.
Gary: You’ve seen OFTV?
Platinum: Yes.
Gary: At one point, someone reached out to me about putting the podcast on OFTV, and I basically ignored it.
Platinum: OFTV is very focused on safer-for-work content. Even podcasts have to be careful about what they say.
Gary: That probably explains why I ignored the opportunity.
Platinum: There are reasons to be careful. You’re building relationships and trying to work with companies, so sometimes you have to think about the consequences of being completely unfiltered.
Gary: That’s the problem with me. I keep it real. That’s how I roll.
Platinum: And that’s also why you have the audience you have. People know what they’re getting from you.
For me, though, I have to be more careful. I’m already a sex worker, so there are consequences to certain things I say. I know there are things I’d love to say, but I also know that I’m trying to build professional relationships.
You’re in a different position. You have more freedom to say whatever the hell you want.
Gary: My twin brother tried censoring himself, and his views went down. People notice when you’re suddenly not being yourself.
Platinum: You have to choose what kind of creator you want to be.
You can stay completely raw and grow more slowly by finding the audience that likes exactly what you do, or you can try to move toward a mainstream audience.
Neither approach is inherently wrong. You have to decide what fits you.
Gary: I went from being unfiltered my whole life into corporate America, where everything I said somehow became sexual harassment, discrimination or an HR problem.
I had to completely change how I talked.
Now that I’m older, I’m slowly breaking some of those corporate habits back off.
I’m still careful because I have a reckless mouth, and I don’t want to say something I don’t actually mean just because I didn’t think before I said it.
LILLY LACLARE JOINS THE SHOW
Gary: And now, joining us, we have Lilly Laclare!
Lilly: Hey! How are you guys?
Gary: Fabulous!
Platinum: Lilly, welcome. We were just talking about cartoons.
Gary: What cartoons did you watch when you were a kid?
Lilly: Do you remember Sticking Around? That was one of my favorites.
Gary: Wait, what generation are you?
Lilly: I’m a millennial.
Gary: Okay, that explains it.
Lilly: I’m in Canada, so there are probably some shows I watched that you guys didn’t.
Platinum: What else did Canadians watch?
Lilly: There was an educational show about Greek mythology. It was actually really interesting. They tried to teach us through the shows.
Gary: Meanwhile, we Americans had the Smurfs, Transformers and Care Bears.
Platinum: Care Bears and Gummy Bears.
Gary: Basically, we all had Saturday morning cartoons.
I used to wake up early, get a giant Tupperware bowl full of cereal and milk, and sit there watching cartoons.
Platinum: Those were good times.
Lilly: If you could go back knowing what you know now, would you?
Platinum: I don’t think I’d want to.
Part of what made childhood special was being naive about life. If you knew everything that was coming, you wouldn’t have that same innocence.
Gary: Exactly. You’d be sitting there thinking, “Oh shit, I know what’s coming.”
Lilly: I remember being young and naive.
Platinum: I had a reckless mouth from the second I could talk. My mom hated taking me places because she never knew what I was going to say.
I also had absolutely no fear. I was the kid who thought she could fly off anything.
Gary: Your mom probably wanted to put you in a helmet.
Platinum: At one point she probably wondered if she needed to wrap me in Saran Wrap just to keep my arms from turning me into a flying human.
Lilly: That’s hilarious.
Platinum: If I had a kid like me, I’d probably put them in a bubble.
LILLY’S EARLY EXPOSURE TO THE ADULT INDUSTRY
Gary: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Lilly: That’s complicated.
I was exposed to the adult industry way too young. Obviously, children shouldn’t be exposed to that kind of material, but I saw Demi Moore in Striptease when I was around seven.
That opened the door to a certain awareness about sexuality at a very young age.
I became interested in the idea of showing parts of yourself, but I was also very closed off.
I’m surprised by how common stories like that seem to be among people who eventually enter this industry.
Gary: So you wanted to be a stripper when you were seven?
Lilly: Not exactly. It wasn’t, “I want to be a stripper right now.”
It was more like that experience opened the door.
Then around 11 or 12, I was hanging out with my sisters and friends at the old video-rental stores.
There was a woman who worked there who also worked as a stripper, and she talked about things she probably shouldn’t have been discussing around preteen girls.
That helped solidify the idea in my mind.
I was also a chubbier kid, so I had this strange thought that maybe God made me that way because I was destined to become a stripper.
Gary: Meanwhile, I was chubby and didn’t care.
Platinum: Men like the jiggle.
Gary: Exactly.
Lilly: Unfortunately, my idea of beauty was heavily influenced by the pressure to be skinny, which I never was.
I grew up normal to somewhat overweight and thought that was simply how my body was.
BODY IMAGE, WEIGHT & HEALTH
Platinum: I’ve been plus-size most of my life too, except when I was little. Once I hit puberty, I started gaining weight.
At 12 or 13, I thought I was huge because everyone made me feel huge.
Looking back at pictures now, I realize I really wasn’t that big.
Gary: That’s one of the sad things about getting older. You look back at pictures where you thought you looked terrible and realize you actually looked fine.
Platinum: Exactly.
I eventually became vegetarian and lost a significant amount of weight very quickly.
But you can be healthy at different body sizes, and you can also be unhealthy at different body sizes. It depends on the individual.
People sometimes pretend they’re concerned about my weight, and I’ll ask them, “Are you healthy?”
Diabetes, cancer and high cholesterol aren’t exclusive to people who are overweight.
I’ve had people criticize me for being overweight while they themselves were dealing with serious health problems.
I’m comfortable with my body. I fluctuate around 260 to 265 pounds, and I’m okay with that.
I’m trying to live a healthier lifestyle because diabetes runs in my family.
I’m not necessarily trying to lose weight because I’m unhappy with my body. I want to be healthier because I want to live a long time.
Gary: You want to be a cam girl forever?
Platinum: Absolutely.
I want to be in an old folks home like the Golden Girls, except it’s Golden Girls 2.0 and we’re all sex workers.
Gary: A Golden Girls fan house.
Platinum: Exactly!
THE GOLDEN GIRLS DETOUR
Gary: I’m not into older women like that, but I love The Golden Girls. I even have Golden Girls pajamas.
Platinum: I don’t think they’re “old hags.” They’re mature women who know a thing or two.
Gary: Imagine the Golden Girls as sex workers.
Platinum: Honestly, I could see it.
Gary: Betty White was hilarious. Who wouldn’t want to bang Betty White?
Platinum: All of them had different personalities. Betty White, Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty… Sophia was hilarious.
Gary: What’s crazy is that Estelle Getty was actually around the same age as the other actresses, and sometimes younger.
Platinum: I always thought she was ancient.
Gary: Meanwhile, I have never even seen The Golden Girls.
Platinum: What?!
Gary: I know. I know. You’re going to have to give me homework.
Platinum: You need to watch it. It’s genuinely funny.
Gary: All right. Golden Girls watch party.
Lilly: I might need to watch it too.
Platinum: I’m doing a Golden Girls-themed birthday party for my next birthday.
Gary: I thought you were going to say you were organizing a Golden Girls-themed gangbang.
Platinum: I don’t do that kind of thing anymore.
Gary: Fair enough.
Gary continues joking with the live chat and talking about Pervert Pete, including the ongoing joke about being Pete’s “twin brother” who has somehow ended up using his space.
MAY THE 4TH, PRINCESS LEIA & SIN PARTY
Gary: So, back to the Star Wars thing. Platinum is doing a May the 4th Princess Leia show.
Platinum: Yes. Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern on Sin Party.
Gary: And you’re still not giving away the details?
Platinum: Nope. If I give everything away, what’s the incentive to join?
Gary: Fair point.
Platinum: I can promise you’ll get a titty pic.
Gary: Sold.
Lilly: That sounds pretty fun.
Platinum: Sin Party is still in beta. They’re very open to creator feedback, and I like being involved with platforms that are still developing.
Gary: You mentioned LoyalFans too.
Platinum: Yes. I’ve been with LoyalFans since day one. I like being part of a platform while it’s growing and developing a relationship with the people behind it.
CREATOR-CENTERED PLATFORMS
Platinum: I think the industry needs more places where creators can actually be heard.
Creators understand fans and spending behavior because we’re the ones creating those relationships.
We know what motivates people to spend, what features work and what doesn’t.
That’s why I like companies that actually listen to creators.
Gary: The technology is getting easier to use, too. Eventually, someone could build a platform that really is run around creators instead of just treating creators as inventory.
Platinum: Exactly.
Lilly: That’s what makes me interested too. You want the platform to understand what creators actually need.
CAMMING, ADHD & KEEPING BUSY
Gary: Lilly, where are you camming these days?
Lilly: I don’t really have a primary cam site right now.
I did about a month of camming on MyFreeCams during my first year.
The problem was that I have a lot of trouble sitting around waiting. If people are just sitting there and not tipping or interacting, it’s hard for me to stay focused.
I’m more of a “tell me what to do and I’ll do it” person.
I actually like doing Sex Panther because I can be busy with other things, and when someone wants a video call or phone call, I hear the notification and go answer it.
I’d love to get back into full cam shows a couple days a week, but I’d need to have planned activities so I don’t get bored.
Gary: I have two suggestions.
First, use a moderator.
Have conversations with your moderator that sound like you’re talking to a fan. It keeps you busy and gives viewers something to join.
When I was camming on Chaturbate, I’d talk with my moderator about trips, lifestyle parties or whatever I had coming up.
We’d be talking about going to New Jersey, Chicago or Los Angeles, and people would naturally ask questions because they wanted to be part of the conversation.
Sometimes I’d tell them, “If you want to know where I’m going, start tipping.”
Platinum: That’s actually a great strategy.
I’m the same way. Waiting for people to tip can get boring, and I’m not naturally good at saying, “You should tip me.”
I’m more like, “Give me your money. Do you want to see something or not?”
Gary: Exactly. Pay me!
Lilly: But how do you find a good moderator?
When I started, I had a flood of guys volunteering to moderate. I couldn’t tell who was genuine.
Gary: I’d consider another performer as a moderator.
Platinum: I agree.
Another performer can understand the dynamic. You can help each other, keep the conversation going and create the appearance of a collaboration or friendship without the moderator necessarily wanting anything from you.
You can frame the conversation however you want. You’re collaborating, you’re friends, you’re planning something together.
The point is to keep the room active.
My second suggestion is to film content while you’re live.
Lilly: So you’re killing two birds with one stone.
Platinum: Exactly.
You’re creating content while you’re waiting. When someone starts tipping, you stop what you’re doing and focus on them.
You’re keeping yourself busy and productive instead of sitting there staring at an empty room.
Lilly: I like that idea.
ONLYFANS, LOYALFANS & GETTING PAID IN CANADA
Gary: Do you have an OnlyFans?
Lilly: I do.
I’ve had some loyal fans stick around while I’ve dealt with some personal issues. But I’m interested in moving more toward LoyalFans.
I’ve had problems getting paid through OnlyFans in Canada, so I’m looking at LoyalFans as more of a primary subscription base.
Gary: So America hates Canadian OnlyFans girls?
Lilly: It’s probably more about banks and payment systems.
Platinum: That’s something we’re seeing throughout the adult industry.
Banking systems can make it difficult for adult creators to receive payments.
Some banks don’t want to accept deposits connected to adult businesses or adult platforms. There have also been situations involving major banks and accounts associated with adult-industry income.
Lilly: Canada can be complicated too, especially with currency conversion.
CANADIAN VS. AMERICAN ADULT-CONTENT CREATORS
Gary: Are there sex-worker lobbyists in America?
The conversation briefly turns political, with Gary and Lilly discussing how different governments and regulations affect adult creators in the United States and Canada.
Lilly: For me, I sometimes feel like there are fewer opportunities in Canada than there are in the United States.
I live in Alberta, and there are things American sex workers can participate in that are more difficult for Canadian creators.
Platinum: I’ve heard similar frustrations from Canadian clients.
One of my clients had issues traveling to the United States after filming scenes here and then returning to Canada because of questions surrounding U.S. taxes.
For her, the ability to travel and work in the United States again would make a major difference.
At the same time, these issues are highly dependent on the individual and their circumstances. Something that benefits one person might create problems for another.
Lilly: Exactly. People see countries differently depending on what matters to them.
I was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario. At one point, that land was part of the United States, so I sometimes think about how borders are just lines humans created.
For me, it’s more about people and the land than the name of the country.
Gary: And that’s the thing with moving somewhere else.
You might escape one set of problems, but you’re probably going to encounter another set of problems.
Platinum: Exactly.
People retire in places because they’re cheaper, but if enough people move there, the prices can change.
What was affordable when you arrived may not stay affordable forever.
Gary: That’s what happened to Florida.
Years ago, places like Sarasota and Boca Raton were much cheaper than they are now.
Platinum: And that brings us right back to The Golden Girls.
GOLDEN GIRLS 2.0
Platinum: I actually think there’s something interesting about the idea of growing older in a community where people look after each other.
If you’ve ever been in an old folks home, the gossip is probably unmatched.
There are also TikTok accounts with older people who have enormous followings.
One woman talks about dating different men at her retirement community, putting on lipstick and explaining what she’s wearing to lunch with her date.
Gary: How many followers does she have?
Platinum: Around two million.
Gary: I almost want to dress up like an old man and start making videos.
Platinum: “I’m going on a date with my neighbor.”
Gary: Golden Gary.
THE SIGN-OFF
Platinum: I have to step away for a minute because my son won’t go to sleep.
Gary: Then I think that’s our cue to call it a night.
Platinum: He’s eight years old. You’d think he’d listen.
Gary: We’re probably going to fall asleep before he does.
Platinum: Oh, because I’m old?
Gary: Yep. Golden Gary.
Platinum: That’s disrespectful.
Gary: I think I just found the name of my Spotify and Apple Podcasts version: Golden Gary.
Platinum: That’s actually hilarious.
Gary: I’m going to embrace it. Golden Girls represent!
Platinum: Absolutely.
Gary: Thank you guys so much for joining us.
It’s been a riot. We’ve been all over the place tonight. It was a complete roller coaster.
Platinum: And apparently Gary still has homework.
Gary: Spaceballs and The Golden Girls.
Platinum: Good luck.
Gary: It’s been real. We’ll see you guys next time.
