Today we have a very special guest. She is a multiple-time XBIZ Cam Model nominee, a multiple-time AVN Award nominee, and the self-proclaimed slut, Danielle Banks. Welcome!

Danielle: Thank you for having me. I appreciate being here.

Gary: So, you’re a self-proclaimed slut. How did you get into the business? Obviously, I guess that’s how you got into it, right?

Danielle: No, I actually kind of tumbled into it. I guess you could say that, sure. We’ll let your viewers decide exactly how I got into it.

I was actually involved in the swinging lifestyle. I’ve been in it for well over a decade, and I’m still involved in it. I had started a podcast about the lifestyle and my journey because all of the other podcasts I had listened to were very happy-go-lucky.

Nothing ever happened. Nobody got ghosted. Nobody had difficult conversations about testing at lifestyle parties. Everything seemed magical.

When I got into the lifestyle, everything was great, but there were definitely some speed bumps. I started thinking, “Am I the problem in this lifestyle? Why am I not hearing about any of this on other podcasts?”

So I decided to start a podcast and talk about some of those experiences. Have my girlfriends and I had bad dates with single men in the lifestyle? Have we ever been the first unicorn for a couple and then had the couple change their minds in the middle of everything?

These were real dilemmas I was running into, and I wanted to share them.

My podcast started getting some local interest. It wasn’t some nationally ranked podcast or anything like that, but about a year and a half into it, I received an email from a listener.

They said, “Danielle, you say you’re an exhibitionist and you love all this. I think you’d be great at camming.”

And I was like, “What the hell is camming?”

I knew what porn was, but I had no idea about this other side of the industry.

I looked it up, and the first cam site that came up when I Googled was Chaturbate. It all went uphill from there.

I started out super part-time in the camming world while also navigating a very sex-positive lifestyle in real life, so I kind of combined the two.

I would talk about my real-life experiences when I went to hot-wife parties and other lifestyle events. As a single woman, I was often invited to join couples, so I became a unicorn in that world.

I was going to these larger, more rave-style lifestyle events and really started finding my footing.

Then I’d come onto stream on Monday and tell stories about my weekend adventures. My fans started growing because they loved the real-life stories and the fact that I was very sex-positive.

Gary: That’s a way I’ve never heard anyone get into camming before.

The Church of Danielle: Sex Positivity

Danielle: I’m from Jersey, Gary. I’m probably feisty. I’m real, and I tend to take people by surprise.

One of the big things I preach is sex positivity. I’m a cam model who doesn’t have a primarily male following. I have a lot of couples who follow me, as well as a lot of single women.

At the Church of Danielle, we’re all about sex positivity.

As long as it’s safe, consensual, and legal, I’m not judging you, and neither should anybody else. You do you, babe.

I might not be into everything. My rabbit hole goes very, very deep, but I’m still open-minded about it.

Finding Your Niche and Building Confidence

I’m the internet’s biggest hoe.

I’m a seven. I’m a strong seven thriving in a sea of tens.

Gary: Some people might hear you say that and think you’re putting yourself down.

Danielle: I don’t see it that way.

Do I think I’m hot as fuck? Absolutely. In my own brain, I can get anybody I want because my confidence and what I can do sexually are pretty impressive.

But I also understand that I’m not a Barbie doll in this industry. I’m older than some of the women coming into it.

I want everyone to understand that you can absolutely thrive in this industry. You don’t have to be in your early twenties to do anything miraculous.

I like being able to say, “No, I’m not a Barbie doll, but guess what? I’m a damn good time.”

I think that’s helped my brand grow.

I’m the internet’s biggest hoe, but nobody really knows it yet.

Gary: You’re a real person.

Danielle: Exactly.

Being realistic keeps me grounded. You can look fantastic and still remember to stay grounded.

I’m feisty, but that’s something that’s really worked with my brand.

Gary: And when you call yourself a seven, the trolls can’t really say shit because you’re already owning it.

Danielle: That’s the Jersey thing.

I’ve lived in Jersey practically my whole life, and people here are just real. Brutally honest is definitely the theme.

You have to be one tough motherfucker to deal with some of these trolls.

Growing Into the Industry

Danielle: I feel like I’m also having a bit of a glow-up.

Gary, if you saw me when I started camming, I had shitty lighting and a Toshiba laptop with no webcam. I was literally adjusting the laptop to get the camera angles I needed.

I had thinner hair, and I was also 130 pounds heavier when I entered the industry.

Over time, I’ve had a glow-up, and my confidence has thrived because of this industry.

People sometimes focus too much on the negatives and downfalls of adult content. Those negatives absolutely exist, but there’s also so much positive.

It’s not just about money. Obviously, we’re all trying to make money, but I genuinely feel like I’ve never been a better person than I am now.

Gary: When I started, I was using a webcam and microphone that were fucking garbage.

People still liked what I was doing. They weren’t focused on what I was focused on.

I was thinking, “Oh my God, this looks like shit. It sounds like shit.”

But they liked what I was bringing to the table.

If you’re starting out, don’t focus so much on having perfect equipment. You’ve got to get the experience.

Danielle: Exactly.

I started with barely anything and slowly worked my way up.

You’re going to get people who come into your room because they only want the visual experience. That’s totally fine.

But a lot of people who come onto cam sites want to build rapport with you. They want some kind of friendship. Some are lonely and want someone who’s open-minded.

I have people who are afraid to discuss their kinks, and they look at me as a safe space.

They’re tipping me for my time, but they’re also getting someone who comes across as genuine.

You learn very quickly that the cam-model industry isn’t just about appearance.

You need personality.

You need some kind of gimmick or identity.

If you’re fetish-friendly, be fetish-friendly. If you’re kink-friendly, be kink-friendly. If you’re the weird girl, promote being the weird girl.

If you’re alternative and you listen to Rob Zombie instead of whatever is currently popular, own that.

I really try to step outside the box.

I think when you do that, you’re opening yourself up to people. In my opinion, it can also be more profitable when you have personality and can engage with people.

Gary: But does the personality approach work for every model?

Danielle: No. What works for one model might not work for another, even if they look almost identical.

It depends on who’s coming into your room.

Thinking Outside the Box

Danielle: We sometimes have movie nights on my stream.

Obviously, we can’t simply show copyrighted movies, but we can turn it into an experience where we talk about cheesy movies like Fifty Shades of Grey.

I actually like it as a guilty pleasure, but as someone who’s involved in the kink world, it’s not exactly a great representation of kink.

I’ll narrate what’s happening.

They can’t necessarily see the movie, but they can hear the music and listen to me commenting on it.

We’ll also watch 365 Days. Give me Massimo any day. I’m never going to complain about watching him.

I’ll narrate it with my own quirky personality.

That really resonates with people.

Especially in a saturated market, you have to do things outside the box.

It can be scary because you might think, “Am I going to waste an entire stream trying something new?”

But every time I’ve tried something really outside the box, it has never been negative for my wallet. I’ve gained from it.

Gary: Game nights?

Danielle: Definitely.

I’ve done drinking games and even a treasure-chest game.

I made little treasure chests and put them in the background. For my two top tippers of the month, I’d pull a name and let them choose from the treasure chest.

There were different prizes, such as a virtual date, pictures, personalized videos, and other things.

I’d raffle it off once a month.

I just want to be the weird girl on cam because it works for me.

One time I was streaming with my hair up, wearing a silk robe, and I was just exhausted. I’d had a terrible morning.

They loved it.

It gave them the feeling that I was a normal person who could literally be their neighbor.

That’s part of the appeal. You’re a real person.

My audience quickly learns that I don’t have many boundaries, but the boundaries I do have are firm.

When someone crosses one, I will absolutely enforce it.

Boundaries at Exotica

Danielle: I have a reputation at expos.

I was at Exotica in Chicago at the Chaturbate booth. I had to use the restroom, and when I went to leave, I ran into one of the IT people I’d become friends with.

He told me that they preferred the girls to leave with security because Chaturbate had security around the booth.

Then he said, “I don’t think we’d have an issue with you. They’re calling you the enforcer back there.”

I asked if that was a good thing.

He said, “It’s a very good thing. Everyone’s comfortable with you.”

Some guys get a little too handsy without asking, and I have no problem making it very clear that they’re crossing a line.

Gary: So you’re telling me if I go to Exotica, I can’t just walk up and grab your boob?

Danielle: Isn’t that disappointing, Gary? Don’t you want your money back because you can’t grab boobs for free?

Gary: What the fuck is this? Bullshit!

Danielle: My reputation at expos is basically the same as my reputation in my cam rooms.

I tell people where the boundaries are, and if someone crosses them, I have no problem standing up for myself.

I’ve got thick skin.

Even people in my own chat will say, “A lot of models you probably have to mess around with, but Danielle? Zero tolerance.”

Kink, Dominance and Exploring a Different Side

Gary: Does your audience tend to be more submissive?

Danielle: I do have quite a few submissive fans, along with a lot of people who are very kink-friendly.

That comes from having a naturally dominant personality.

I’ve been involved in the swinging and lifestyle world for around 12 or 13 years, and I’ve always been very dominant in that environment.

As a single woman, you have to be assertive about boundaries.

But I’ve also always had a little bit of a sadistic side.

I’ve enjoyed being dominant at private events and exploring things like restraint, wax play, and other forms of kink.

Then I got into the smut world of BookTok about two years ago.

I’m a huge book nerd. I love reading.

Gary: You write smut?

Danielle: I write smut.

Gary: You both write smut?

Danielle: Apparently we’re going to be best friends.

Gary: I just wrote a really good one too.

Danielle: It’s good.

I’ve gotten deeply involved in that world. I’m reading these books, writing, meeting authors, and getting involved with creators who are bringing some of these BookTok fantasies and BDSM themes to life.

And it made me realize something.

I don’t think I’m as dominant as I thought I was.

I’m actually interested in exploring some of the positions these women are in.

So for the past couple of years, I’ve been exploring my submissive side.

That opened up another audience for me because now I have people who are interested in seeing that side of me too.

Enjoying the Work

Gary: It’s great when you can actually enjoy what you’re doing.

How many girls hate doing this? They’re sitting there thinking, “I don’t want to do this.”

Danielle: I try to make sure I’m in the right headspace before I work.

If I’m frustrated or not feeling it, I don’t want to take that energy out on the people in my room.

If the chemistry isn’t there, I’m just working.

That’s okay too.

You don’t have to pretend every moment is some magical experience. Sometimes you’re working, and sometimes you’re having fun.

Choosing a Main Platform

Gary: You mentioned Chaturbate. Do you have a main platform?

Danielle: I’m very dedicated to Chaturbate.

But if there’s one piece of advice I can give anyone getting into the adult industry, whether it’s camming, subscription sites, or clip sites, it’s this:

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Every site has had some kind of issue at some point. There can be payment problems, shutdowns, policy changes, or other unexpected problems.

Anything can happen.

That’s why I’m on almost every platform.

Another reason is the fans.

You have whales who are extremely loyal to specific sites. You could miss out on a big spender simply because they’re someone who spends all their time on MyFreeCams, for example.

Different sites have different cultures and different types of users.

Chaturbate is my primary platform, but I don’t want to miss opportunities elsewhere.

I think I’m around 55,000 followers on Chaturbate.

I like the interface, the apps, the bots, and the traffic.

Stripchat, Outdoor Shows and Platform Rules

Gary: You’ve also talked about Stripchat. How are outdoor shows possible there with all the rules surrounding what you can and can’t do?

Danielle: Outdoor shows are actually huge for me.

I love doing them.

I started seeing people doing shows in cars and parking lots and thinking, “How are they getting away with this?”

I also do shows in my swimming pool, and that’s one of my biggest shows.

Gary: I’m jealous.

Danielle: I did get in trouble on Chaturbate once because I forgot that their rules were different from other platforms.

All these TOS rules can start blending together.

That’s why I tell models:

Read the Terms of Service.

Read them religiously because they change.

Platforms add things. They rewrite things.

Please read them.

There are also gray areas.

For example, rules surrounding animals can differ from one platform to another. You can’t assume that because you see another model doing something, it’s automatically allowed for you.

When you’re new, you have to play by the rules.

Don’t say, “Well, I saw this person doing it.”

If something is in a gray area, play it safe.

When the Rules Get Confusing

Danielle: I once got a warning on Chaturbate because I was doing impact play on myself and the platform interpreted what it saw as abuse.

I contacted them and explained that it was consensual and that I knew what I was doing.

They reviewed the situation and removed the warning.

That’s one reason I’ve remained loyal to Chaturbate. They actually reviewed it and acknowledged that I had a point.

But not every platform handles situations the same way.

The Gray Areas of Social Media

Gary: Every platform has gray areas. Adult sites, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, all of them.

I’ve had posts from the show flagged on Facebook for sexual solicitation even though the show is educational.

Then you see other accounts posting similar material without getting flagged.

Danielle: Sometimes it’s simply the AI.

Gary: Exactly. It’s hit or miss.

Danielle: That’s one of the frustrating things about being in the industry.

Sometimes creators are trying to understand what is and isn’t allowed, and the answers they receive are automated.

You can ask a specific question and get an answer that basically says, “Yes, that’s allowed, but what you did…”

And you’re left thinking, “Okay, then show me exactly what is allowed.”

That’s why adapting is so important.

If you want to make a sustainable income in this industry, you’re constantly going to have to adapt.

Technology changes.

Platforms change.

Guidelines change.

Even something as simple as updating your computer can suddenly change your OBS setup.

You have to be prepared for change.

Multi-Streaming

Gary: So Chaturbate is your main platform. How do you actually multi-stream?

Danielle: I use OBS.

OBS allows me to input multiple stream keys from different sites.

I have all the platforms that allow live streaming set up, with Chaturbate as my main one.

I’ll usually start on Chaturbate and give it some time to get moving.

If it’s slow, I’ll give it around 45 minutes.

If it’s going well, I might stay there for two or three hours before bringing other platforms into the mix.

And that’s another thing I want to tell models:

This is not easy money.

When you’re growing, sitting on cam for three to six hours can be completely normal.

You’re going to have great days when you hit your goal in an hour or two. That’s fantastic.

But don’t let a slow day destroy your confidence.

Slow days happen in camming.

Everyone has them.

Reading the Room

Danielle: Once I start adding other platforms, I’ll rotate through them and see what’s happening.

You have to read the room.

What are people responding to?

What’s the theme?

What’s getting attention?

Sometimes one site will suddenly get busy, and that can create energy across the other platforms.

I’ve had nights where I’m streaming on three sites at the same time and everyone is focused on the same thing.

Other nights, everyone’s doing something completely different.

If you’re going to multi-stream, you have to be able to multitask.

Don’t Just Sit There Typing

Gary: Are you typing a lot or mostly interacting?

Danielle: I’m interacting.

I’ll say people’s usernames and talk to them because they’re watching the show. They’re not necessarily reading every message in the chat.

We’re here to entertain.

Sometimes nobody will be talking and I’ll invent a username called Stevie.

I’ll have an entire conversation with imaginary Stevie.

Then suddenly people start asking, “Wait, what happened with Stevie?”

It’s ridiculous, but it gets people involved.

Gary: That’s fucking brilliant.

Danielle: You don’t have to be the world’s biggest talker either.

If you’re shy or introverted, that’s okay.

You can dance.

You can paint.

You can clean.

You can fold laundry.

You can read.

You just need to be doing something.

Don’t sit there staring at your phone.

Using Your Interests on Stream

Danielle: I’m a big reader, so I’ll sometimes read books on stream.

I’ll even read scenes out loud, although sometimes I have to mute certain words because of platform rules.

I’ve also done completely random things like Alexander Hamilton readings.

Gary: I can picture you wearing one of those old powdered wigs.

Danielle: I’ve got a master’s degree, Gary.

Gary: What the fuck is happening?

Danielle: From a Mormon college.

Gary: She wins.

What Do You Do When It’s Quiet?

Gary: We have a fan question.

Beyoncé Rampall asks, “What do you do when it’s quiet on the site?”

Danielle: Karaoke.

It depends on the type of stream.

Sometimes I’m prepared to be dominant. Sometimes submissive. Sometimes it’s just chill.

My streams can go in a hundred different directions.

I try to read the room and adapt.

If there’s no theme, I’ll make it goofy or sensual.

I’ll put on music, dance, talk to my imaginary friend Stevie, talk about something interesting, or just sing along.

I’ve even put on the Hamilton soundtrack and talked about it with everyone.

There are people who love nerdy girls.

They love weird girls.

Being different can be your moneymaker in a very oversaturated industry.

But this industry isn’t for everybody.

You have to be thick-skinned.

It’s a roller coaster.

It’s not easy money, and you have to put the work in.

Gary: Sometimes you’re going to have boring nights where you have to talk to your imaginary friend Stevie.

Danielle: Exactly.

And everyone is different.

Someone might not be attracted to your specific body type, but there are plenty of people who are.

Everyone has their thing.

Is CamSoda Still a Thing?

Gary: I want to talk about CamSoda for a second.

That’s still a thing?

Danielle: I’ll just say this: it’s still a thing.

You’d be surprised how big of a thing it still is.

CamSoda still has big porn-star names who come on as featured performers.

When they appear, they can drive a lot of traffic to the site.

So timing can matter.

If you know they’re doing a promotion or featured weekend, consider scheduling around it.

You don’t necessarily have to stream at the exact same time.

Sometimes it’s about catching the traffic as it’s moving.

Gary: I haven’t heard much about CamSoda in a long time.

Danielle: It’s still very much a thing.

I can still pay a bill with CamSoda income.

Especially if you’re already multi-streaming, it can be another source of revenue.

The “New” Tag Strategy

Danielle: Here’s something I think every new model should understand.

When you join a platform, you’re new to that site.

You’re going to be heavily featured.

You’re going to get traffic.

You’re going to have the “new” tag.

The length of time varies by platform, but it’s often only a few days to around a week.

So even if you don’t want a particular site to become your primary platform, consider signing up and taking advantage of that initial exposure.

You’re the shiny new toy.

People haven’t seen you before.

Regardless of your body type, niche, or age, the platform may push you onto pages specifically because you’re new.

Gary: That’s smart.

Danielle: It’s not free money. You’re still working for it.

But it’s free promotion.

Promote everything you’re allowed to promote.

Your OnlyFans, your other platforms, your social media, whatever the site’s rules permit.

You’re suddenly being exposed to the same audience as everyone else under that new tag.

Use the New Tag Strategically

Danielle: You can even stagger your sign-ups.

Start with Chaturbate.

Use your new period there and dedicate your time to it.

Then move to Stripchat.

Once you’re approved, dedicate your time there.

The idea is to take advantage of being featured as new on different platforms instead of trying to do everything simultaneously.

That also gives you a backup.

If your primary platform suddenly isn’t performing well, you already have another platform available.

Gary: I never thought about it that way.

Danielle: And remember, you’re new to the site. You don’t have to be brand new to camming.

Gary: That’s a hell of a tip.

Be Careful When You’re New

Danielle: You also have to be careful because people will take advantage of new models.

Wish lists can work, and I’ve had generous fans who have sent me things from mine.

But that didn’t happen when I was brand new.

You have to learn how things work before assuming everyone has good intentions.

The Weirdest Custom Request

Gary: The gooners want to know: what’s the weirdest or craziest thing someone has asked you to do that you actually did?

Danielle: I once had a guy request a custom video where I covered myself in about a hundred cinnamon buns and rolled around in them.

I had to buy a plastic pool and a whole bunch of cinnamon buns.

It was a very profitable custom video, so I agreed.

But I was genuinely curious.

I asked him, “Why Cinnabons?”

I wasn’t judging. I really wanted to know.

Afterward, I couldn’t get the sticky stuff off me. I showered, scrubbed, exfoliated, and still felt sticky for days.

He explained that he had an obsession with his mother’s best friend, who worked at a bakery and always smelled like Cinnabons.

He associated that smell with her and would look for women who resembled her or had similar mannerisms, hair color, or other characteristics.

Apparently, he’d asked other people to do the request and always been turned down.

There wasn’t even anything sexual about the custom.

He literally wanted to watch me roll around in cinnamon buns.

It was completely mental.

Gary: That’s fucking insane.

Danielle: That’s probably the weirdest and most unique request I’ve ever done.

Success Isn’t Easy Money

Gary: Camming is fucking insane. There are so many extremes.

Danielle: And everyone can do well, but I wish I could sit here and tell you that everyone who gets into camming is going to be successful.

That would be a lie.

There are people who tell new models they’re going to immediately make $10,000 a month.

Sure, there are success stories like that, but you shouldn’t build your expectations around the exception.

People need to be transparent and realistic.

You have to put in the work.

You have to stick with it.

You have to develop thick skin because there are trolls everywhere.

You could be the most gorgeous person in the world and there will still be people who hate what you do and try to use it against you.

You have to be prepared for that.

Industry Drama and Predators

Gary: Fuck the drama.

I can’t stand all the drama. You’re all in this together.

Danielle: I don’t deal with drama.

Don’t come to me with drama.

I’m a grown-ass woman trying to live my life.

I have a sustainable income doing this.

Is it hard sometimes? Absolutely.

But I get to do this every day.

I get to create my own art.

I consider myself an artsy creator. I’m trying to think outside the box, write scripts, and create things instead of doing everything on a whim.

I’ve built a life that I’m very comfortable with.

I love my house. I love my car. I love having money in savings and being able to travel.

But you have to work hard for that.

I’m not going to get involved in drama unless it’s something serious, like a predator in the industry.

Then you should absolutely fear me.

Gary: I’m actually in the middle of a battle with one right now.

Danielle: Unfortunately, I have gotten involved in something like that.

It doesn’t involve another girl. It involves a predator.

If someone is hurting models or behaving inappropriately, that’s different from petty creator drama.

Respect Boundaries at Events

Danielle: If someone gets banned from an expo because they’ve behaved horribly toward models, that’s a completely different situation.

Being in the sex industry does not mean you can touch someone without permission.

You can’t just walk up to a model at an expo and grab her because she’s a sex worker.

Keep your hands to yourself until she makes it clear that touching is welcome.

Let her make the first move.

Sexual boundaries can get blurred because we’re in a sexual industry, but consent doesn’t disappear because someone works in adult entertainment.

Don’t Build Your Brand for Other Creators

Danielle: When it comes to actual creator drama, I think people make a huge mistake when they cater their content or social media to what other creators think.

They don’t pay your bills.

Your fans do.

You should be creating content for the people who actually support your work.

I’ve developed a reputation as someone people can come to if they have a problem at an expo.

Even if we don’t like each other, I hate predators more.

But I also don’t let other creators dictate what I post.

If my content is kinky, it’s kinky.

If I’m posting something that someone else thinks is too much, that’s their opinion.

I’m going to post what works for my audience.

On social media, your question should be:

Is this entertaining my fans?

Be controversial sometimes.

Be yourself.

Don’t build your brand around trying to make other creators happy.

The Cam Industry Isn’t Always a Community

Danielle: I think creators come onto social media wanting community, and we absolutely should have community.

But let’s be honest.

This can be a very catty industry.

There are moments when the community absolutely comes together.

For example, when there are legal or industry issues affecting creators, everyone can rally around the same cause.

I love seeing that.

But the majority of the time, there can be a lot of cattiness.

If you make friends in the industry, great.

But remember: this is your brand.

You’re trying to make money.

Cater to the people who actually open their wallets for you.

Gary: Sometimes people want everything to be kumbaya.

Danielle: Exactly.

I’m not saying everyone hates each other.

I go to expos and have a blast.

I’m just saying that until you actually meet someone in person, don’t let their social media personality dictate your life.

Don’t worry about what other creators think.

Focus on you.

Final Thoughts

Gary: I think that’s fucking well said, and we should end it on that.

This is exactly why this podcast exists.

People like you have great ideas and actual information that people can learn from.

I’ve learned a lot.

Now I’m a cam girl.
